Brace yourselves for a long day full of exciting adventures! Post breakfast, we drive out of Kaziranga towards The Negheriting Temple (Doul) which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The actual temple is dated 8th - 9th A.D (Pre Ahom), built by the Kacharis. The present form of the temple was constructed under the reign of Ahom king Swargadeo Rajeswar Singha (1751-1769) and the latter part was built in the 18th Century after the original structure was devastated by natural calamities. The temple is also known as “The Panchayatana Temple” as the main Temple (Shiva) is surrounded by four corner shrines/ Doul dedicated to – Lord Vishnu, Lord Surya, Lord Ganesh and Goddess Durga.

After the temple visit, we get on our cycling gears and ride out on an epic journey to a serene island isolated from the rest of Assam, otherwise overlooked and unheard by most. This place is Majuli and once, it held a Guinness World Record for being the world’s largest river island but is now slowly disappearing due to climate change. As we move away from city life, today’s ride would be about taking in the countryside views, breathing in the fresh air, and cycling through small villages and towns. We will have packed lunch with us today. En route, we will be crossing the Brahmaputra on a small local ferry as it’s the only choice for reaching the island. Day 8: Majuli exploration day
Rise and shine in Magical Majuli, a romantic place lost in time encircled by the swift waters of the mighty Brahmaputra. What better place to end our cycling expedition than Majuli! The Majuli Tourism Board has promoted cycling as part of its Sustainable Eco-Tourism Development Project. They believe travel should be about being in a place and not just passing through it and the best way to engage in a new land – is on a cycle. Most importantly they want to make Majuli, India’s first carbon-neutral district! Flat, straight, empty and unending roads, forest trails, lush countryside and green fields, verdant farmlands and forests, uncountable wetlands, and streams make Majuli the perfect spot to get on our bikes and explore to our heart’s content! As you immerse yourselves in this spectacular island’s slow pace of life, its captivating nature and exciting – history and culture, today we would visit historic satras (monasteries dedicated to Lord Vishnu and centres of traditional crafts and performing arts) and discover fishermen’s villages and the homes of ingenious Mishing Tribe that have been elevated on bamboo stilts for protection during the flood season. We would also have lunch in a monk’s house.
